Lovely Professional University Alumni Opened Delhi NCR Chapter

The First Alumni Chapter (Reunion) of Lovely Professional University (LPU) for Delhi NCR Noida Region was held with great fanfare. It was a mega reunion where Alumni gathered with their families, to reminisce, network, get updated and reconnect with friends around the country and the world. In this regard a great get-together was arranged at Great India Place, DELHI. Alumni from TCS, WIPRO, INFOSYS, NOKIA, SEINMENS, ACCENTURE etc were prominently present. They also shared their nostalgic moments spent at the vast campus along with their other fellow students, teachers and administrators.

According greetings of the season and best wishes for New Year to them and their family members, the Chancellor of the University Mr Ashok Mittal said: "It always gladdens me to note that our alumni are regularly acquiring power, position with riches in the society to shine not only their own names but the brand of their alma-mater also. Seeing them at the helm of affairs of importance in the rising world of academia and industry encourages us to give much more to the next generation of the students. As such, they may excel their predecessors leaving solid foot- prints for their successors. The initiation of such a chapter is really a great step towards the progressive pursuits of the University."

On this occasion, the election of the office Bearers of the Alumni Association for NCR DELHI, NOIDA Region was also held. Mr.Akhil, a pass out of 2008 batch, currently working with Nokia was elected as the President while Mr. Sumit Rajan a pass out of 2009 batch, currently working with Infosys the Vice- President. The Bye-laws and Memorandum of understanding of the Alumni Association were also discussed. While taking important decisions, a Green channel was given to alumni regarding admissions of their relatives to their alma-mater.

It is worth noticing that all of the chapter leaders are committed to industry professionalism and the development of the LPU Alumni Association. After discussing alumni roles and responsibilities, next chapter is selected at Chandigarh. It was also decided that after every two months a chapter, in this regard, is to be formed. The alumni gathered were of the joint opinion: "It is an emotional as well as a joyful moment for all of us as we are meeting in such large numbers after a long time. We will be actively engaged in building bridges, both academic and industry, to provide unique opportunities for the students and faculty of LPU so that they may always remain exposed to the world around. We are ever eager to be with our 'alma- mater' in raising its stature as a world-renowned University like Takshila."

LPU signs MOU with Limkokwing University of Creative Technologies

Lovely Professional University signed a MOU with Limkokwing university, Malaysia to facilitate the provision of students' transfer, exchange and collaborative works between both the Universities. Limkokwing university has strong reputation in area of Management and Animation. Limkokwing University is a fast growing University with several campuses across globe, including Malaysia, UK, Bali, Botswana, Borneo, Cambodia and Lesotho. Through this MoU both Universities will explore oppourtinities for students and faculty exchange as well as developing joint programs.

Both the Universities after signing the MOU have various lined up joint programmes considering the needs of Indian as well as foreign students. Regarding this MOU, Associate Prof Dr Jayles Yeoh, Vice President, International Development, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Limkokwing University said, “ A comprehensive programme of any University includes providing enough exposure to the students to understand the working of corporate at local as well as global level. This MOU will benefit the Management students of both the universities to learn the Management skills required in international market. We are happy to have a tie up LPU which has a global repute in the education sector.”

On signing the MOU, Dr. Vijay Gupta, VC of LPU said, “ LPU always strives to provide its students hands-on-experience in their respective fields. In this regard, we already have entered in tie ups with 20 renowned foreign universities in different fields. MOU with Limkokwing is another achievement in this step and with this tie up more and more students will get required foreign exposure which will further groom them and capitalise on placement opportunities provided by the University. Apart from Management programmes we are also looking forward to have tie up in other commom fields of both the universities like Animation, Graphics, Desigining etc.”

Talented Students of Lovely Professional University Bagged Many Prizes at 26th North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival, SHAURYA-2010

The talented Students of Lovely Professional University have hoisted the colourful flag of the University at 26th North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival, SHAURYA-2010. It was organized at Bundelkhand University, Jhansi in collaboration with Association of Indian Universities and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India. More than 20 such students have bagged the first, second as well as third prizes in seven events of the different competitions. It has ensured its entry in the Inter- Zonal National Youth Festival, to represent north zone in 5 events, to be held at Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

Felicitating the winners for bringing laurels, the Executive Dean of the University, Ms Rashmi Mittal informed that after performing very well at the regional level the students' teams of western Song (Solo), Western Song (Group) and Mimicry topped their competitors; whereas, in mime and Classical Vocal the stood second and in Classical Dance and Quiz bagged third prize. She said: "More than 4000 youth artistes from the nationwide universities participated in the UNIFEST and exhibited their talents. However, the 36 artists of the University performed for 22 events claimed wide applauds and appraisals, from the on-lookers, for their special presentations in seven events. Right from the inaugural day of Cultural Procession from Jhansi Fort to University Campus Convocation Ground to the closing ceremony all the LPU students remained as heart-throbs of all present at the fest." She further added: "After writing another page of success at Inter-zonal Fest, we are looking forward to more colourful victory at 5th South Asian Universities Youth Festival (5th SAUFEST) to be held at BRAC University, Dhaka, Bangladesh."

A few of the winning students in different events at different positions, Sakshi Minhas, Palki Abrol, Renu, Mohit Bajaj, Harnoor, Debaditya, Shwetima and Gowahar Rasool said jointly: "We were all very anxious to participate in this youth festival. Some of us have been participating for the last three years consecutively. However, this victorious participation has given us an additional Encouragement, Support, Charm, Positivism and great values to imbibe and remain activated throughout our life to achieve more and more."

'BRAND WAGON-2010', an Annual Fest, by the Department of Fashion Technology of LPU concluded with a magnanimous Fashion Show

The Department of Fashion Technology of Lovely Professional University organized a grand Exhibition cum Fashion Show 'BRAND WAGON-2010' at Shri Baldev Raj Mittal Square of the Campus. The conclusive day witnessed a magnificent spectacular Ramp Show of Autumn-winter collection 2010-11 of these very brands, with ace Models, Choreographer like Hida of Wills Fashion Week's Fame, Gulzar of Thumps Up Ad-Fame and 28 other National Models. The fashion parade was well designed with a total of 15 Rounds. The last Round of Creation earned wide applaud as it presented Future Designer Students of the University with the display of the best of their creation. On this occasion, Chairman of the Lovely Group, Mr Ramesh Mittal, Vice- Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal, the Vice-Chancellor of the University Mr Vijay Gupta, the Director General HR Singla, and other dignitaries were specially present.

Inaugurating the beautiful Fashion Parade, the Director General of the University, Mr Singla said: "This glittering and wonderful fashion show by prominent brands, 30 national models from different states and more than 200 students of our Fashion Technology Department is certainly illustrative. This Department of the University is a premiere academic institute of design, management and technology that prepares every year a new generation of fashion designers for the world of fashion. A lot of its graduates are having, at present, great occupations with big banners. The present professional experience with self designed, stitched and sewed clothes by the students is certainly to pave great way to fashion Industry. Taking the innovative multi disciplinary approach to teach the latest techniques and love for fashion and design to the students, all the Programmes of the department, from women to men's wears, publishing to image, trends to styling, teaching to graphics are creative to the core. We are further planning to enhance the infrastructure for this department to ensure a permanent place with redefined latest methodology, in the related field, to make it a name maintaining International Standards."

Prior to this, the first 3 days of this organization were solely the Exhibition cum Sale days of the latest and top class Winter Wears. In fact, this unique 4-day Mega event was fairly added by the Famous Brands like Vanesis, Fort Collins, Bodyguard, W&T (Spanish Brand) and many other popular brands from LDFO, Shopping Mall, Ludhiana, through the efforts of the Department of Fashion Technology of the university. It is worth illustration that it has been a premiere academic Institution, of Design, Management and Technology, which is continuously preparing a new generation of fashion designers for fashion world.

A few buoyant students of the Department, Moontaha Nasir, Ritika Jhanji, Rasel d Costa, Haque Rahbar, Bhoomika Kath, Paras and Alpana said jointly: "Getting versatile experience through such endeavours, we shall surely be getting well-versed to make an excellent entry into the Fashion industry for shining entrepreneurship. We have learnt a lot through this show of magnanimous proportion and standard for our bright and brilliant future. Indeed, we are fortunate enough to get a chance amidst a galaxy of stars to exhibit and promote our self created products, of latest designs and textures."

IBM Daksh Selected 20 Students of Lovely Professional University

Twenty students of Lovely Professional University got selected as Executive Operations during a Joint Campus Drive made by IBM Daksh, a renowned BPO Industry. This selection was for Technical/ Semi-Technical/ Non-Technical Voice Process and also for web Prcoesses. It had invited Graduates of BCA/ B Sc IT/ BBA/ B Com and MCA of Batch 2011, Final Year, for placement drive made at Shri Baldev Raj Mittal Auditorium of the University. In all, 75 Students had undergone the meticulously conducted Selection Criteria based on PPT, Extempore, Voice Accent, Written Test and Personal Interview. The selected ones will join their duties in the month of June 2011, at a salary package offer of Rs. 1.5 to 1.75 lacs per annum.

On this success of the students, the Director General of the University, Er. HR Singla Said: "Now-a-days, the enthusiastic approach to the placement drives, every time, by the yearning students, indicates that the Indian economy is always in a boosting way through the great efforts of the companies like IBM Daksh. World Conference ‘Educon-2010’ Organized at Lovely Professional University

Educational Research Association(ERA) Punjab & Faculty of Education of Lovely Professional University organized two days world conference ‘EDUCON-2010’ of All India Association of Education Research(AIAER) at Shri Baldev Raj Mittal Auditorium of the University. It was based on an immensely needed great educational theme of Professional Development of Teachers and Teacher Educators. A book titled on the theme was also released. More than 700 Delegates from UK, Bhutan, Australia and 24 States of the country participated. Virtual and Video Sessions from US and Singapore, respectively,were also arranged to provide delegates with true global research platform.

On this occasion prominent personalities from the Education Arena, Prof Field Christopher and Prof Kaen Jones from UK, Father of Micro Teaching Prof BK Passi from Indore, Prof SP Malhotra, President of AIAER, Prof M Mukhopadhayay were specially present to inspire other participants. After inauguration of an AIAER Resource Centre and Pre- Conference Workshop at Lovely Faculty of Education on the eve of this organization, the first day began with the inaugural address by Prof M Sodha emphasizing teaching to be a dynamic process. It was followed by a virtual key-note address from NIE Institution of Teachers Education, Singapore, by Prof Low Eeling who forwarded six approaches for professional growth of teachers including Reflective Teaching, Models, Scholarships etc. This session also witnessed releasing of a book, titled on the theme of the conference, authored by Dr SK Bawa, Dr Anand Padhan and Ms Sumanpreet Kaur of the University.

Congratulating the organizers for the grandeur of the conference and quoting personal examples from his childhood, the Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal said: “ Teachers can always inspire and motivate their students right from the initial days of schooling. They can create miracles in shaping the unripe minds into a creative force of utmost importance for this world. The only thing needed is that they must present themselves as role models and idols for the young minds at developing stage so that they may imbibe all the goodness, thoughtfulness, intelligence and humanity thus imparted.” He also suggested self directed learning for professional development of the teachers. On this occasion, Director General Er HR Singla, Ex Dean Ms Rashmi Mittal, Sr Deans Dr Sanjay Modi and Dr LR Gupta, Dean Dr SK Bawa of the University were specially present along with him.

Having in between different technical sessions, plenary session, Panel Discussion and Research paper Presentations and shared their valuable views, on the first as well as the second day, the Faculty of Education of LPU also formed World Chapter-International Education Research Association (IERA) and an Indian Chapter of International Professional Development Association (IPDA, UK) with Head Office at the University, under announcements from Prof Passi, Prof Ken Jones and Prof Kit. The main objective of these are to develop and promote Educational research, to publish Journals, Monographs and allied Literature of Education research, to conduct seminars, conferences and, above all, to co-operate with different organizations engaged in Education. Before the Valedictory Session of Resolutions of the Conference, Delegates Report, Presentation of Awards and vote of thanks, the visiting guests had also enjoyed a beautiful cultural evening through the marvellous performances of the University Students.

It is worth noticing that the Faculty of Education of the University is a prominent place where future of nation builders is shaped and polished. On contacting a few participants, Ms Sangeeta Pandey, Ms Noorain Anas from Karamat Husain Muslim Girls PG College, Lucknow and Ms Neelam and Ms Neeraj from BKM Co-Ed College, Balachaur said: “The arrangements for the conference are superb. Right from the start from our place, we got all accommodating facilities to participate in a well planned conference to gain and absorb much for our personal development and enhancing of teaching skills. We are really lucky to be a part of it.”

Renowned Guru of Joy Sri Sri Ravishankar Ji conducted one of His Lecture- Series at Lovely Professional University

Guru of Joy, His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shanker Ji, the founder of the Art of Living, an International NGO working in more than 160 countries around the globe visited Lovely professional University, today. He was warmly greeted at the University Square by the Chairman of the Lovely Group, Mr Ramesh Mittal, Vice-Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal, Chancellor of University Mr Ashok Mittal, Director General Er HR Singla and Executive Dean Ms Rashmi Mittal. Out of his Lecture series Schedule, he had to have an Interaction Session with the students, members of the staff and registered visitors to satisfy their different queries in relation to their life and peaceful existence in this world. The Theme of the session was ‘Life is Joy, Life is Love, Life is Enthusiasm’. This session was a second day of the four days event ‘Utsav’ being organized by the students which is going to conclude tomorrow, that is 13th instant. It was specially organized to have free talk through great spiritual learning of His Holiness.

According a vast hug to a multitude of students from the stage and answering smilingly to the many posed questions, he was mainly and primarily of the opinion that “A youth is one whose smile never disappears, enthusiasm never dies and who never loses an opportunity to excel. It is a great mixture of emotions and reasons to form a healthy nation.” He gave great message to the students: “Carry your enthusiasm, create your own positive environment of belief and confidence. Be always on the driving seat to steer the way. Awake, arise and take up the leadership of the country for betterment casting aside all ills, misconducts and unethical means.” He answered all questions related to Studies, Love, Marriage, Family Problems, Memory-Power, Failure, Food, Strength etc on positive notes and directed to follow the Indian values of Yoga, Meditation, Herbal Power and other ethics.

On this great occasion and appreciating the students for their great endeavour, the Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal said: “Our University always wants the students to get enlightened not only academically but spiritually also. In fact, Spiritual Connectivity for youth of today is very essential. That is why Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ji was specially requested to bless the students through his mesmerizing teachings and experiences of great values. Our University will try to ensure that his teachings should be carried forward to have peaceful existence in this world, otherwise full of continuous strives and struggles.”

Sri Sri is an epitome of compassion, wit and wisdom. He is ranked among the top five most influential Indians in the world by FORBES magazine; He is invited by government of various nations to resolve conflict and nominated twice for Nobel Peace Prize. On this occasion, International AOL Singer & Youth icon, Mr Siddarth Mohan conducted a spiritual youth concert also. Along with him the Directors of WAYE (World Alliance for Youth Empowerment), Dinesh Ghodke and Khurshed Batliwala, were also present.

It is also worth noticing that around 4000 students of LPU have already undergone ‘UTSAV’ - a workshop of The Art of Living since April, 2008. Since May,2010 four UTSAV workshops have already been held, where in students have experienced the bliss and peace, realizing their true potential ; freedom from stress; enhancing their confidence , concentration and clarity of mind. This year, more than 300 students are attending the workshop at the University being held by YES! and Faculty Members Vivek Vansal, Salony Kalra and Dr. Jasminder Virk, who are devotedly and regularly looking after this spiritual outcome.

Punjab School Education Board Regional Level Co-Curricular Competitions Held at Lovely Professional University

Three days Punjab School Education Board Jalandhar Region Level Co-Curricular Competitions were organized at Lovely Professional University. The competitive activities like Shabad Gayan, Solo Dance, Folk Song, Debate, Calligraphy, Painting, Poetry Recitation, G.K., Kavishri, War Gayan, One Act Play, Gidha, Bhangra & Gatka were separately held for three categories students of Primary, Middle and Senior Secondary standard. More than nine hundred students participated in these competitions. Different venues, Sh. Baldev Raj Mittal Auditorium, Lovely Institute of Technology Conference Room, Lovely Institute of Management Auditorium, Campus Cafe Stage/Admission Cell Stage/LIT Stage of the University, were arranged specifically for different activities. The winners were awarded prizes at the end of each activity. Departments of Cultural Affairs and Extension Education of the University cared for this organization.

It is worth noticing that held annually at Block, District, Regional and State Level in chronological order, these co-curricular activities have due Academic Weight-age for the participants. In addition to all round personality development of the school children, these also protect and patronize cultural heritage. These are held as equal to the Achievements made at University level Regional Youth Festivals. As such, these help the participants as per their talent potentialities, in having Reservation Seats for all Academic and Professional Courses at University as well as School Level. LPU is specially chosen this time for competitions at Jalandhar Region level. The three other regions are Amtitsar, Bathinda and Patiala.

About 250 students on 9th, 330 on 10th and 370 students, today, took part in different activities enthusiastically, from different schools of the districts of Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Moga, Barnala and Jalandhar, falling under Jalandhar Region. For I to V standard students only six competitions were held- Shabad Gayan, Solo Dance, Folk Song, Debate, Calligraphy and Painting. The students of 5 to 11 years of age were specially applauded for their extra ordinary skills towards Calligraphy, Painting and Solo-Dances. 12 competitions were for VI to VIII Standard Students. The on-lookers highly praised the performers of 11 to 14 years old for Shabad Gayan, Poetry Recitation, War-Songs and General Knowledge specially. Whereas, students of 14 to 19 years old of IX to XII standard competed for 14 competitive activities designed for them. Gatka was the most enchanting and exciting activity for all the viewers. However, these students also displayed beautifully One-Act Plays, General Knowledge, Bhangra, Giddha, Folk songs, War Songs, Malwai Giddha, Basic Writing Skills etc. The poetry recitation, debates, war-songs concerning burning humane and national issues, specially by the youngsters, attracted all emotionally.

Congratulating all the participants and the winners, in special, the Director- General of the University, Er. HR Singla said: “Healthy competitions teach us all to be up to the mark always so that we may excel others. Youth must learn much from these activities which uphold our traditions, customs, values and culture in abundance. The Punjab School Education Board really deserves ‘kudos’ for this nicest step to inculcate among the growing minds all those virtues which such activities have from time immemorial inspired and motivated us all in different ways. Our University is always ready to in such important and mammoth organizations which may bring revolutionary change towards desired social set up of humanity all around.”

Three of the participants Charanpreet kaur, Sahib Jit singh and Rajwinder Kaur of Sri Guru Harkishan Public School, Ludhiana said: “We are lucky to get a chance in these competitions presented before the audience and spectators of the largest University of India. The applaud through them has really boosted up for further presentations with more enthusiasm.” On contacting the Co-Ordinator of the Programme nominated by the Chairman of the Punjab School Education Board, Mr Harjinder singh and one of the Judges Mr. Noor said: “The arrangements made through the University gave a perfect dais and stage to the performers which added luster to their presentations. All the arrangements were well conceived in accordance to the needs of the PSEd Board.”

Lovely Professional University Organizing World Conference ‘Educon-2010’ from 12th November

Faculty of Education of Lovely Professional University and Educational Research Association(ERA) Punjab are organizing two days world conference of All India Association of Education Research(AIAER), EDUCON-2010, on 12th and 13th of November at Shri Baldev Raj Mittal Auditorium of the University. It is based on the mammoth theme of Professional Development of Teachers and Teacher Educators. More than 550 Delegates are expected from foreign countries, UK, Bhutan, Australia and 24 States of the country. There will also be a Virtual Session from US and a Video Session from Singapore during this organization. Eminent Scholars of Repute will grace the Conference through their great experiences of Scholastic Pursuits and wisdom of Learning.

Workshop Arranged for Disability Detection & Rehabilitation Training Sessions at Lovely Professional University

The Department of Physiotherapy of Lovely Professional University arranged three days workshop on Training session on Disability Detection & Rehabilitation for the Teachers of Sarv Siksha Abhiyaan (Govt Of Punjab). The Director General of LPU, Er HR Singla inaugurated the Workshop at Shri Baldev Raj Memorial Auditorium of the University. Deputy Education Officer Mr Parminder Singh, Mr Ravi Shankar, Speech Therapist ( SSA) and Ms Arvinder Kaur Co- ordinator(SSA) also witnessed the Inauguration. 56 Special Teacher Educators from four Districts of Punjab, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Nawanshar and Hoshiarpur participated in the workshop.

Welcoming all Er. Singla said, “Our University is ever ready to promote social service awakening not only among our students but people all around also. The attainment of such desired ends and inculcation of helping habits is, in fact, moral duty of all human beings. Department of Physiotherapy has already been helping SSA for the last one and a half year. In this regard, it has already referred more than 250 cases for surgery to CMC Ludhiana . Now, the trained educators will remain in consonance with the department and after getting primary briefing will proceed in accordance. I wish all the persons in connection to this mission all success.”

On this occasion all the DSEs of the four districts, Mr Raju (Jalandhar), Mr Gopal krishan ( Kapurthala), Mrs Anju Saini (Hoshiarpur) and Ms Anu Kapil ( Nawan Shahar) said jointly: “ We are very happy to see the boosting atmosphere at the University. The aim of the workshop - Orientation of Physiotherapy Processes and Techniques, Disease Identification, Assessment, Referrals etc are being beautifully forwarded to all the participating Inclusive Education Resource Teachers (IERTs). After being trained through LPU they will be proceeding door to door in their areas to identify the suffering children to train and make them gain vitality under guidance from the Department of Physiotherapy of the University. The higher authorities are much impressed by the working culture of LPU, and they are planning to request to educate more IERTs belonging to remaining districts of the State.”

In fact, Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan(SSA) is also an attempt to provide an opportunity for improving human capabilities to all children, through provision of community-owned special education in a mission mode. On contacting, two of the IERTs, Mr Ravi Shankar and Mr Raju expressed: “We have learnt a lot through this workshop. Birth day of Shaheed-e-Aazam Sardar Bhagat singh Celebrated at Lovely Professional University

The Divisions of Student and Cultural Affairs of Lovely Professional University celebrated the birth-day of Shaheed-e-Aazam Sardar Bhagat Singh with great enthusiasm and excitement. Different programmes in relation to the depiction of this great Indian Martyr’s life were presented at Shri Baldev Raj Mittal Auditorium of the University. Poem recitation, Solo/ Group Song, Choreography, Short Play, Dance and poster competition well exhibited and reminded the young professionals about marvellous rebellious movements made to structure Independent India. Specially present, the Vice-Chairman of Youth Development Board, Punjab Government, Mr Tarun Chugh inspired the students greatly.

The legendary young freedom fighter, Bhagat Singh, who fought for India’s freedom till his last breath was born on September 28, 1907. The Proud Punjab saluted and remembered this great personality month long on his 102nd birthday, through patriotic celebrations.The students of LPU presented highly applaudable programme keeping sacrifice of Sardar Bhagat Singh alive and recreated his legacy in their own colourful way. The whole auditorium kept echoing through continuous slogans of patriotic fervour- “Vande Matram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”. The Director General, Er H R Singla, the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Vijay Gupta, Senior Deans and Deans of the University, also graced the occasion by their benign presence.

Saluting the Shaheed and taking illustrative examples from his life, Mr Chugh inspired the students: “Indian Professionals are known world around. With in next ten years, India is going to establish itself as Super Power. The students of today are greatly needed to read, understand and practise the revolutionary thoughts of this great martyr who always dreamt to see India on the top pinnacle as “VISHV GURU” in all fields.” He further motivated the students by invoking them to be prepared to lead the world: “Bhagat Singh was also a brilliant student. However he had foreseen the potentialities if his motherland. The modern students should shun vices and voice strongly against corruption, starvation, illiteracy, tyranny and other social evils. They should step forward with big aim to chase, and big role to play in creating Leader India.”

Some of the students, Heena Shrivastav, Shamsher, Mantej, Narinder Kaur and Manpreet Kaur said, “The progamme has enchanted us to the core. We pledge to work towards strengthening our mental power to make our motherland ahead of all, not only as resourceful but powerful also.”

Students of Hotel Management of Lovely Professional University Exhibited Perfect Technical Skills

In order to make students ever-ready for the viable careers in Hotel Industry, the School of Hospitality of Lovely Professional University, organized a Chef Competition through its Department of Hotel Management. It was in regard to International Chefs’ Day. The main objective of establishing this day is to create widespread awareness about the profession in Hotel Industry and for the profession to give back to society through charitable events, culinary competitions and demonstrations. It was also to make students more practical by incorporating latest trends and techniques available than merely getting bookish knowledge.

The competition was divided into two Chef Categories -Senior and Junior. 15 students participated in this competition. This competition was sponsored by Ricela Health Foods Limited. Students used their technical skills to prepare three course menus. Mandeep Singh of BHMCT and Rahul from BSc Hotel management 1st year were declared as winners in Senior and Junior categories respectively. Whereas, Sania from MSc Nutrition & Dietetics and Jaspreet Singh from BHMCT 2nd year were declared runners up.

After inauguration by the senior Dean of the Department, the event began with a small presentation. The Executive Dean of the University, Ms. Rashmi Mittal, made her graceful presence as a Chief Judge to motivate students. Dr Sanjeev Sharma from Ricella and Prof. Subhasini Verma also accompanied in the Panel for Judgment. Appreciating the students’ endeavors, hard work and performance, Ms Mittal said, “In this era, the hospitality industry is vast and very diverse as maximum of daily activities of People are continuously patronizing establishments in this industry. The management of such establishments is very challenging, as managers need to be flexible enough to anticipate and meet a wide variety of needs. And, by creating awareness at this level is a huge and first step towards getting more qualified employees in this field. We need to let the students know that there are jobs in the hotel industry that have a great future for them.”

On this occasion the students of the Department said that they have learnt a lot from this organization. Prizes to the winners were distributed by the Executive Dean Madam. Director General Er. H.R. Singla also gave his valuable presence to motivate students. Closing of the event came out with a small video presentation by Chef Varinder Singh Rana and Chef Karan Berry.

Rocking Performances Concluded the Youth festival at Lovely Professional University

Folk as well as Western Dances stole the show on last day of the annual youth festival of Lovely Professional University. Rocking performances by multi-talented students of the University compelled all the viewers and audience to sing dance and feel greatly along with them. The enthusiastic audience responded with gusto and applauding. The second and final day witnessed Geet, Gazals, Giddha, Bhangra, Folk and Western Dances, and various other Show stealing performances of 25 Indian States and 16 countries. This day's events also included competitions in light vocal, Solo, Mimicry, Mime, Debate, on the Spot Painting, Clay Modelling, Rangoli etc.

Other stalls at different blocks of the university had competitions in poster making, Tattoos Ikebana, Dance, Robotic , LAN Games, Sports, Quiz Show, Band Performances, Fashion Parade, Mehndi, Face Painting etc. Jalebi Junction, Mitran Da Dhaba and other food stalls of tongue tasting stuffs attracted the gluttonous very much. Prior to this, on the first day the inaugural day has already seen the classical, cultural & rainbow display of art. Seven Popular Bands of the University also continued performing through out on both the days and made more than 20,000 students dance to their melodies. Students, teachers and other members of the staff enjoyed fun and frolic got through the different Festive organizations.

The chief guest of the day was Mr Ashok Mittal, the Chancellor of the University. Congratulating On the brilliant organization of the youth festival of mammoth dimensions, he said: “ Such organizations keep all of us full of youth, vitality and vigour not only in deeds and actions but in thoughts and plannings also. Moreover, these give us an opportunity to work together under a great feeling of oneness, equality and determination with proper understanding towards culture, customs, traditions of not only ours but that of all other paricipants hailing from different states and countries.”

All the competitions were beautifully judged by Mr Ajit Rai(Theatre & Journalism), Mr HG Roy(Kathak Kala Kendra) & Mr Padam Chand( National Bal Bhawan)- specially invited judges of versatility and immense reputation from New Delhi. In the evening, Mr. Mittal distributed the prizes to the winners of different competitions. He was accompanied by Ms Rashmi Mittal, the Executive Dean of the University.The LIECA School was declared over all Champion.

‘Microsoft Community Tech Days’organized at Lovely Professional University

Giant and worldwide leader in software, Microsoft was in Lovely Professional University to host its internationally registered event ‘Microsoft Community Tech Days’. Such ‘Tech Days’ are to provide IT oriented students a rare opportunity to dive deep into the latest Microsoft Products and Technologies. It was powered by ‘Kryptorhythm’- a Micro soft Student Club and Microsoft Student Partners, New Delhi. Renowned Microsoft Valuable Professionals (MVPS), Mr Mukeet Khan and Mr Jayant Jindal, were specially present on the occasion. They had various sessions on new Microsoft Technologies and Technology opportunities on two consecutive days, for the benefit of the students. About 1050 students participated in the event.

Mr Khan presented Introduction to Operating System and Web-Server. Whereas, Mr Jindal explained in details about Dot Net Framework and System Architecture. Also one of the five Microsoft Student Partners (MSPs), from Delhi, Mr. Rajeev Bhatia, who is an established MSP, told about Microsoft Initiatives for students. He informed about Photosynth, Robotics and Cloud Computing. In fact, through many programmes, partnerships; Microsoft provides training, tools and support to numerous projects, organizations and people by creating social and economic opportunities in transforming communities around the world.

On this occasion, the Chancellor of LPU, Mr Ashok Mittal said: “By bringing the giant company like Microsoft at the campus, it is an effort of the University to get our students exposed to the latest trends and techniques prevalent globally. Such initiatives are definitely going to benefit the students to become efficiency super-doers by attending interactive technical presentations and product demonstration sessions made through technology experts.”

It was also the moment of pride for the University as it launched a new Microsoft Student Tech Club- ‘ne Creator’ at its School of Science & Technology, in the presence of Microsoft Representatives. Two of its students have also got selected as MSPs(Microsoft Student Partners) during the event. Under a long and hard selection Criteria and clearing three rounds of Selection Process, Group Discussion; Abhishek Sekhri and Apoorv Upadhyay, are now new MSPs. All the participating students are also very happy by getting attached to a great name through their newly inaugurated Microsoft oriented club. They would soon be getting Microsoft Access Keys, Certificates and original Software of Microsoft to be regular proud part of the Company.

WIPRO BPO Made Placement Drive at Lovely Professional University

WIPRO BPO made a Placement Drive at Lovely Professional University by inviting the Graduates of BBA/BCA/B Com students of batch 2011 passing outs. After a process involving PPT, Group 0Interaction, Voice & Accent Round, Technical Test; Six students got selected thereof. The salary package offered is 1.54 Lacs per annum which, above all, has in addition a great chance to be a proud part of the big Industry. About 100 students attended the Drive.

The selection procedure was chalked out at Shri Baldev Raj Mittal Auditorium of the University. The rounds of personal interview were made after initial short-listing. Oberoi Group Visited Department of Hospitality of Lovely Professional University

The senior representatives of the largest and finest Hospitality chains in the world, the Oberoi Group, visited Lovely Professional University. The objective was to share with the students about the subtle awareness in regard to the Hospitality Industry and talk about career opportunities with the Oberoi Group. They made a pre- recruitment presentation for the aspiring young professionals of the University. About three hundred students of Hospitality & Management Programmes attended it.

Col JS Chauhan, HR Manager, Oberoi Group, who led the representing team, made a fruitful presentation about the recruitment procedures to the Group and also interacted with the students on hospitality as an Industry. Students were well acquainted with the Oberoi Center of Learning and Development (OCLD) Training Programmes which are considered a benchmark for international excellence within the hotel industry. Mr Chauhan elaborated: “There are three courses, Guest Services Management, Housekeeping Management & Kitchen Management. All of these lead to a first posting as an Operations Executive with The Oberoi Group. These provide an opportunity to be trained by the finest professionals in the hotel business.” Mr. Partap Sharma, HR Executive, and Mr. Rajesh Rawat, HR Supervisor, Oberoi Group, accompanied him. They also helped the students for their queries made.

Punjab Info-tech & Lovely Professional University Organized NASSCOM’s NAC Tech Sensitization Programme

NASSCOM’s NAC Tech Sensitization Programme was organized by Punjab Info-Tech and Lovely Professional University, jointly, at LPU. Serving as a watchdog to the endorsing prospective 32 companies, NASSCOM is determined to give a neutral third party assessment report to showcase about the students’ skill levels and hence help seek placement for them. This organization was to publicize NAC-Tech test with different Technical Colleges and Universities of the state, coming under the aegis of Department of Technical Education. 35 Training & Placement Officers, Deans, Senior Professors, Principals of colleges and Institutes of Technology, across Punjab, and all Teacher Placement Coordinators, Senior Lecturers, HOS, HODs, CODs from all B Tech/MCA Streams of LPU attended this endeavour. About one lakh candidates are expected to take the test in the next one year.

Elaborating the Programme, Ms. Avneet Bajaj, Sr. Manager Education Initiative, NASSCOM, said: “National Assessment of Competency- Technical (NAC/NAC-Tech) is a national-level unique skill assessment programme. It is for engineering students to benchmark entry level skills in the industry. It will evaluate candidates on their communication and analytical abilities as well as technical skills. The test has been developed in consultation with the IT industry experts. It has two parts. The mandatory Part ‘A’ tests verbal ability, analytical reasoning, learning ability, programming and written English skills; whereas, Part ‘B’ is optional and has tests depending on the specialization field of the candidate. As such, it will make easier for companies to screen candidates in accordance to their needs. She further said, “Moreover, it will also be beneficial for the companies in saving many lacs of rupees which these used to regularly spend on the tests and trainings for the new joinees. Now, the certificate issued by NASSCOM will serve as an authentic document in regard to the abilities of the candidates for the perusal of Industry/Departments. ”

On this occasion the Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal said: “The channelized dissemination of IT knowledge can go a long way. The Indian IT Knowledge industry is growing tremendously and has given a great boost to the Indian Economy. And, our University is ever-ready to be a prominent part of all those efforts which play key role in establishing India’s leadership position globally. Lovely Professional University (LPU) Conducted ‘Peer-to-Peer Training’

Being on the very specific lines of a unique programme of Lovely Professional University, its Department of Computer Applications (LSECA) conducted ‘Peer-to-Peer Training’. The objective was to conduct training/grooming sessions by the students, for their fellow students, by proving themselves as perfect Role-Models. It was on the areas that were deemed important from placement or employability point of view. The Students, as Role Model trainers, had been selected on the basis of a panel interview and demo lectures by their University Faculty. Such students were prepared by their teachers to teach all those basic things to other students which they themselves thought to be learnt necessarily.

For this special conduction, the Executive Dean of the University, Ms. Rashmi Mittal said: “One can gain and learn much through one’s self endeavours and experiences. Being open to a situation, the things needed to tackle it are self created automatically, as per one’s abilities and understanding. We all know very well that necessity is the mother of all inventions. As such, being open to the training sessions, the students will be able to improve upon under mutual interaction and beneficial discussions, thereof.”

It was a placement-oriented initiative of the Department for 2011 passing out batch students. As trainer, students got an opportunity to reveal their talent as well the others learnt more and more of basics needed through interactions and presentations from the students of their own level. Training areas were C, C++, Java, Data Structures, DBMS, Computer Networks, Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal and Non-Verbal ‘Reasoning’ or, on the spur, some other topic deemed beneficial for students. These were conducted three times a week and each session was of two hours. The faculty coordinator for the event and the Co-ordinator of the Department of Computer Applications carefully watched for the smoothness of the whole process going on.

Two of the students, Sukhbir Kaur and Malika Bedi, who learnt a lot through active participation in this conduction, said: “Under the able guidance of the teachers, our fellow students taught us very well the basic fundamentals needed for the hard topics. They proved themselves as ‘True Role Models’ by possessing the qualities that we liked them to have as trainers. Being almost on the same level of understanding, they taught us in a common language of easy understanding.”

Indian Army Conducted Placement Drive at Lovely Professional University

The Indian Army organized Campus Interview at Lovely Professional University under University Entry Scheme. As per the information made by the Division of Students Career services of the University, students of various Engineering Disciplines ( B Tech) participated in the drive. Placement Officers interviewed the students and have invited the 24 shortlisted students to participate in SSB. After being selected by the SSB, these students would be enlisted in the Army as commissioned Officers.

A four-member team of officials of the Indian Army had arrived at the campus to begin the four-day procedure for placement drive. Students of B.Tech (All streams) of 2011 & 2012, Final Year & Pre Final Year, Batch had appeared. The package offered for the posts is as per the pay scale by Government of India. The date of joining is June 2011 for students passing out in 2011. After a thorough process followed they shortlisted 24 students for SSB. Out of these students 12 are girls.

On this Drive, Mr. HR Singla, the Director General of the University, said: “After having a number of successful recruitment drives at the campus for more than 5000 students suitably placed hitherto, this recruitment drive for the army is a special one, obviously, it is going to provide better avenues for the youth, as Indian Army is one of the leading Armies of the World.”

On being included in the list of short-listed candidates, Kanchan Verma, Harpreet Kaur, Vishal Sharma, Abhishek Sekri said jointly, “We really feel honoured that the Indian Army has short-listed us for further SSB Procedure. We will try our levels’ best to bring laurels to our alma-mater after being coveted crowned with cane to serve the nation, being one of integral and honoured part of the great army of the world.”

Lovely Professional University Organized Para-Medical Diagnostic Camp

The School of Applied Medical Sciences (LSAMS) of Lovely Professional University organized Para-Medical Diagnostic Camp in the campus. According to Ms. Rashmi Mittal, the Executive Dean of the University, “Important Medical Tests like HB, TC, DC, Blood Grouping, Blood Sugar, Urine Complete, Lipid Profile etc were planned so as to make the students and members of the Staff of the University always on the alert in regard to their health.” She further said: “In this Camp the tests were done at very nominal rates almost amounting to less than half the prevalent Market Rates. Hundreds of students and members of staff utilized the service provided at the Camp. It was organized through the Department of Paramedical Sciences in front of Old Pharmacy Block of the University.”

The camp was also conducted by the University as a part of its social responsibility activities. A team of more than 12 Para-Medical staff members rendered their services. For all those who attended the medical camp, the prescribed medicines were also given at very subsidized rates. About 280 persons attended the camp. Ms. Mittal also added: “It is a well known fact that only strong body keeps a strong mind. So, LPU’s such initiatives and activities mainly focus on the students and Employees health. As such the Department runs regular health oriented camps to provide medical care and medicines at very subsidized rates. In addition to this, such Medical Camps are also arranged in the nearby villages and areas, free or at very nominal rates, for the benefit of the people who cannot afford. These are also to make the people more health conscious and relieve them of their ailments.”

Representatives of DCT University Center Switzerland Visited Lovely Professional University to Explore Possible Academic Collaborations

The President, Mr. Walter Spaltentein, of World Renowned DCT University Center of Switzerland, in the area of Hospitality Management Programmes, visited Lovely Professional University. He had come to explore various areas of co-operation between both the Universities. He had meeting with higher authorities of the University to understand the Indian Hospitality Industry as well to explore synergy between both the two institutions. DCT already has partnered with many top Universities from around the World and has many specialized programmes in Hotel Management and food preparations.

Mr. Walter also interacted with Final year University students of Hotel and Hospitality Management related programmes, where he shared his experiences with them. He also discussed about lucrative opportunities available in Switzerland for the students of Hotel Management and Hospitality stream. Asking about his experience here, Mr. Walter said: “In this era of globalization, the persons with hospitality skills are direly needed to greet other people under culture exchange visits whether in regards to business, tours or other purposes. In this regard our University is on regular hunt for the class collaborative Programmes with other Universities of the world. In India, LPU being the largest University of the country, we are really interested.”

Lovely Professional University held its First ALUMNI MEET

The First Alumni meet of Lovely professional University (LPU) was held with great fanfare. About 1000 alumni took part in the function. It was a mega reunion where the Alumni gathered with their families, to reminisce, network, get updated and reconnect with friends around the country and the world. A website of the alumni association http://alumni.lpu.in was also launched on the occasion. The famous bands of the current batch students of the University presented an entertaining cultural programme for alumni and their parents. Whereas, Alumni shared their corporate experiences with the students and gave them important career tips.

The Meet was inaugurated with the lighting of the Lamp by the Chancellor, Mr. Ashok Mittal. On this occasion, he said : “Our University can now boast of many illustrious alumni, like you, who are leaders in Industry, Academia Public Sector Enterprises and Government Service. Now you are to act as a binding force to further strengthen the visualization as well as the realization of the vision and mission of the University by planning effective roles as a part of the Lovely family. Of course, we are too young. But, our aim is to be among the best. I am sure that we have the potentialities and ingredients to grow to the desired heights. And, it requires a devoted and dedicated effort from one and all, especially from you.”

Along with him present on the dais were the Executive Dean, Mrs.Rashmi Mittal, Senior Deans, Dr. Sanjay Modi, Dr.LovirajGupta and the Registrar Dr.Monica Gulati of the University. With the vision to perpetuate the tradition of quality holistic excellence as an umbrella organization to amalgamate Alumnus with the alma mater, he also launched the website http://alumni.lpu.in of the alumni association. The Association is created to effectively use the experience and knowledge of Alumni so that they may pass on their potentialities and capabilities as legacy to their juniors. During Election of its office Bearers, Mr. Pankaj Bharti, Mr. Gaurav Murgai and Mr. Zuail Khan are elected as President, Vice-President and the secretary of the association respectively. The bye-laws and memorandum of understanding of the alumni association were also discussed.

On intervals, the famous ASTITV BAND, Kartavya Group,Crazy Devil and Fusion Group of the University entertained the alumni and their members of the family. An opportunity was also given to every alumnus to share his/her experience with LPU, and its impact on their career. Some of them reminisced about their stay at LPU. All the participants opined that the alumni could play an active role in the growth and development of LPU and also pledged their active support for the same.

Some of the notable alumni including Lt. Amanat Jagjit Singh, Lt. Priyanka Singh, Mr.Varinder Dhillon (Quark Chandigarh, MCA 2004 Batch), Mr.Pankaj Bharti(INFOSYS, 2008 Batch), Mr.Gaurav Murgai(Kotak Mahindra Bank, 2007 Batch) and Mr.Vishu Grover(Entrepreneur Chandigarh, 2007 Batch) said jointly, “It is an emotional as well as a joyful moment for all of us as we are meeting in such large numbers after a long time. We will be actively engaged in building bridges, both academic and industry, to provide unique opportunities for the students and faculty of LPU to always remain exposed to the world around. We are ever eager to be with our Alma Mater in raising its stature as a world-renowned University like Takshila.”

It is worth noticing that LPU Alumni Association will be dedicated to bringing together the alumni community on a common platform to build another channel of personal and professional support to members through ‘self-help’ within community. Apart from serving as a base for information about the alumni, it initiates programmes and organizes events important to alumni, their alma mater and in the interest of the nation.

His Excellency, the Governor of Punjab, Shri Shivraj V Patil, presided and delivered the Convocation Address. He also awarded medals to the Graduates/Post-Graduates/ Diploma Holders and bestowed honour upon other deserving scholars of the University for their illustrative contributions towards scholastic pursuits and achievements thereof. Shri Suresh Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Technical Education & Industrial Training, Punjab was the Guest of Honour.

A total number of 5882 students of LPU and 2500 of LI received their Degrees, Medals and Prizes at the University Campus. The recipients were awarded the degrees for M.Phil, Post Graduation, Graduation and Diploma Programmes.

The Convocation started with the arrival of the “Academic Procession” led by His Excellency-the Governor of Punjab, Shri Shivraj V Patil along with the Chairman of Lovely Group, Mr. Ramesh Mittal; Vice Chairman, Mr. Naresh Mittal; Chancellor of the University Mr. Ashok Mittal; and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Vijay Gupta. Executive Dean Mrs. Rashmi Mittal, Registrar Dr. Monica Gulati, Sr. Deans: Dr. Sanjay Modi and Dr. Loviraj Gupta and other 168 members accompanied the Academic Procession.

The Convocation began with the great invocation made through the master poetic creation of Nobel Laureate Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore, based on the title 'Light of Life'. The Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Vijay Gupta there after presented the Report of the University. He proudly illustrated that the University guided well by credo: “Transforming Education, Transforming India” is performing sacred duty of transforming India into a land of our dreams through academic excellence. He added that the University attained, with in a few years of its inception, a mammoth stature and due recognition from all quarters as the largest University of India. The University has great Research Potential and many of the teachers have undertaken high quality research in their respective fields. He highlighted the achievements of the University in Cultural, Academics, Sports and Extra-curricular activities. He said: “Our University has set, for itself, a tradition of pursuing excellence in teaching and research in science and technology, humanities, social sciences, performing arts and sports.”

After the Report of the University, Chancellor, Mr. Ashok Mittal made an introduction about the versatile personality of the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour. He also elaborated the vision of Late Shri Baldev Raj Ji Mittal who enabled the Lovely Group to scale new heights regularly under the dictum “Paying back more than what we are paid for”. He also iterated that “the day is not far off when LPU will be regarded among the World’s Top University, in terms of imparting Quality Education.” After this he requested His Excellency to bless the students.

“Exhorting students to face the challenges of the outside world with a positive attitude, Mr. Patil said that the education is to help students to become good citizens of not only State or Country but of a whole world. He further emphasized that the universities are the instrument of change and should come forward to encourage youth to achieve academic brilliance and take the state forward. Mr. Patil added that our country is on the move and has emerged as one of the leading nations of the world. He said that our people have the talent, capabilities and capacities and they have demonstrated their strength in various countries in hostile environments. Our Educational Institutions therefore have a special responsibility to equip our youth with the appropriate skills to come up to the required standard.

Appreciating the role of University, Mr Patil said that LPU in its march towards excellence, has introduced many new job oriented and market friendly courses. It has thereby provided a sense of rejuvenation into academic life of the University during a short span of about nine years. While giving away degrees and certificates to the students of the University, Mr. Patil, congratulated the Vice Chancellor and faculty for imparting quality education and imbibing moral values in students. He said along with helping students they helped our society, the nation and the humanity.

Thereafter his speech, His Excellency gave away the Gold Medals to the achievers of the University and Degrees were conferred upon by the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Vijay Gupta. It followed the Exhortation ceremony wherein the newly degree-holders vowed to work towards the betterment of the society. The convocation ceremony came to a close with the National Anthem.

Distance Learning Programmes of Lovely Professional University Getting Tremendous Response This Year As Well

Salute to Lovely Institute of Law: Priyanka Singh

Lovely Professional University is proud of its alumni Priyanka Singh who is going to be commissioned as Lieutenant in Indian Army. After completing her Programme of Law from its Institute of Law by bringing Bronze to the University, She has once again brought laurels by topping women candidates for Judge Advocate General of Short Service Commission. Now, after undergoing an11-month training at the Officers Training Academy, OTA, Chennai, she would be a full-fledged crowned officer with a cane.

Talking to the Media Department of the University from New Delhi on her mobile phone, she seemed highly emotionally attached to her alma mater. She wishes to make her first salute to the Institute which has enabled her to achieve this success. She is missing its highly educative environment. “I have no army back-ground or any other pull or push. I am a simple person, only well tinkered by the administrators and my teachers at the Institute. I am really waiting for the moment when I will be saluting them, being in Uniform, especially, the Executive Dean Ms. Rashmi Mittal, to pay for the way they have prepared and regularly encouraged me to become a successful girl”, she said.

She further added, “The disciplined atmosphere of Institute with remarkable education system has developed my personality in all colours. My teachers always guided me well. They not only tried to solve out my study based problems, but they remained always humane to make me strong enough to deal with my personal ones also. I had joined the Institute in the year 2004. Ms. Mittal was the Principal of my Department, then. Since then along with her University has written a great saga of success. I am myself very proud of getting professional education through it. LPU Organizes First Convocation Ceremony and Alumni Meet on 24th September

India’s Largest University, LPU organizes its First Convocation Ceremony this month on September 24th. It will be for all LPU & LI Students 2003 onwards.

Talking to the Media Persons, Ms. Rashmi Mittal, the Executive Dean of the University said that the degree recipients are required to participate in the mandatory Convocation Dress-Rehearsal on the same day at 10 a.m. They should carry a Photo Identity Proof (Voter ID card, PAN card, Driving License or Employee ID card) with them as a proof of their identity. The Alumni Meet will also be held from 7 to 8pm on the same day with Dinner. The students are required to register themselves at www.lpu.in or can send their e-mails at: convocation@lpu.co.in. World Literacy Day Celebrated at Lovely Professional University

The Honours School of Business of Lovely Professional University celebrated World Literary Day. It took an initiative in the name ‘AGRSAR’ to launch a literacy campaign by organizing a Drawing Competition for the deprived children. Around 30 children of labourers working at the construction sites of the University actively participated in the Competition held. The theme for the event was ‘Power of Literacy’ which spread the message of ‘Each One, Teach One’.

The competition saw enthusiastic participation from the faculty members as well. Dr. Sanjay Modi, Sr. Dean, also motivated the participants by trying his hands at painting. ‘Agrasar’ began as a small step which is now involving the services of maximum number of persons around. With such events, it is continuously generating general awareness and much acceptance thereof. Now, it is well on its way to achieve Education for all with the catching slogans, ‘Stand Up, Take Action’ and ‘Someone Needs Your Support’.

Association of Indian Universities has accorded Membership to Lovely Professional University

Lovely Professional University has now attained membership from Association of Indian Universities (AIU). Keeping in view LPU as the largest University of India providing High Quality, Value based, Career oriented education, AIU has accorded its Membership to it. Association of Indian Universities is a Centre-Body in which all the Universities of India are members. The Governing Council of the Association resolved to grant this coveted membership in its 304th meeting held at AIU House, New Delhi. Apropos of the same, a Letter ‘Meet/304/2010’ under the signatures of its Secretary General, Prof. Beena Shah, has been received by the University. The membership to LPU further expands the network of the association.

LPU has now got included in the mailing list of AIU’s Sports, Youth Affairs, Publication and Sales Divisions and allied activities. Along with this letter of membership, the Vice-Chancellor of the University has also been invited to attend the North zone Vice-Chancellors Conference 2010 on the theme ‘Expanding Horizons of Higher Education Challenges’(at Punjab University,(Chandigarh)and the Annual meeting of the Association(at Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune).

Lovely Professional University Celebrated "World Physiotherapy डे"

The students and faculty of the Department of Physiotherapy of Lovely Professional University celebrated World Physiotherapy Day. On this occasion, Free Physiotherapy Camp on Pain management (Back, Neck, Limb Pain) was held at Shri Baldev Raj Memorial Hospital of the University. Also, valuable Lectures were delivered to motivate the future Physiotherapists.

Many patients from nearby villages joined the camp for the Ergonomic and Bio-mechanic advice. They were treated in accordance to make them get rid of present and forthcoming pain due to work habits or age. During the Poster Making and Presentation Competition, the team comprising Minakshi and Dilpreet with title ‘High Heels’ adjudged as First. Shikha, Ritika and Gagandeep with ‘Instability about Knee’ stood second and at third place were Arundhati, KS Bhavish with title ‘Physiotherapy Rocks’. Similarly In Quiz Competition, the Team comprising of Amandeep an MPT student and BPT students Shubham, Anupama, PreetKamal, Khushboo, Swaijot, Amreen was declared FIRST.

Congratulating all the Physiotherapists of the world on the auspicious Day, the Director General, Er.HR Singla, of the University said, “Among all medical professions ‘Physiotherapy’ is at number one as per service towards humanity. It is another way of Yoga. As, it does not involve any medicines intake, there are no side effects also. It is merely “SEVA”(service) where a body heals another body fulfilling the task of its Master-Creator. Lovely Professional University Celebrated National Nutrition Week

In order to make its students and other members of the staff adopt healthy eating habits, the School of Hospitality of Lovely Professional University celebrated the first week of September as National Nutrition Week. The objective of this grand celebration is to sensitize people on various factors leading towards malnutrition. They were also empowered in steps to regularly take care of their nutritional needs. In this regard, the students and the faculty had chalked out a well calculated and great message oriented schedule.

On the conclusive day of this planned organization, the Vice-Chancellor of the Univesity, Mr. Vijay Gupta said: “For the students, being in the developing stage, the importance of good nutrition is beyond any question. In India, there is a huge problem of Mal-nutrition. The young ones are suffering a lot due to ill-awareness in regard to it. Thinking on these lines our University has started certain programmes like Nutrition and Dietetics, Hospitality Management and Hotel Management etc. This particular week celebration, which related students and faculty, is indeed an effort towards bringing awareness about this giant problem of mal-nutrition. In fact, one should have good knowledge about nutrition by learning from such celebrations.”

In connection to this, as a first step out of a series of events, the school had devised Nutritional Awareness Programmes by students through Speech, Skit, Poem, Slide show etc. In the next stage competitions like Poster Making and Slogan Writing were held. The theme was ‘Healthy Eating for Healthy Living’. 26 students participated in these competitions. In poster making Cheenam Bhatia, Kanika Thareja stood first and second respectively. Whereas, in slogan writing Varindar Kaur and Bhawana were adjudged first and second. Geeta was given a Consolation Prize. These all students belong to MSc Nutrition and Dietetics.

It was followed by a valuable Guest Lecture on Nutrition Importance of Rice Bran Oil by Dr. Sanjeev Sharma of eminent reputation. After this, Nutritional Counselling and BMI Workshop was arranged for the benefit of all. The last step of this celebration was observed as a Recipe Contest (Low Fat Recipe). The participating students, Manpreet kaur, Suraj Tripathi, Mannu Salaria and Meet Joshi from Hotel Management said: “This celebration is very meaningful for all the students of School of Hospitality. This celebration has given us a right platform to propagate our career in a right direction.”

World Renowned ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) Gurus Guided the IT Students of Lovely Professional University

In order to guide the IT students, world renowned Enterprise Resource Planning Guru of Alma Mate Info-Tech Mr.Sudeep Verma and Mr. Kamal Mansharamani visited Lovely Professional University. They chose the topic ‘Trends in IT Industry & Future Growth’ to discuss with the students. More than 500 students of the university grasped the guidance from them of “Can Do” to “Will Do” philosophy of working. The visitors told the students to believe in enjoying the work by creating an atmosphere of learning, sharing, mutual growth and fun.

University of Missouri and LPU discussed to join hands

‘Change’ and ‘shrink’ are the two words that have become synonymous to all the sectors in this era. Considering this fact, the Universities are also taking initiatives to make their students global resources. With the world becoming a smaller place, it has also become important for the educational institutions to equip its students with the traits where in they fit easily in all situations and environments. This is possible, only when the students get practical exposure to the various practices and policies in different countries. Understanding the need of the hour, various steps are being taken. Recently, LPU has discussed about an MoU with University of Missouri where in its engineering students shall be able to study in that campus.

University of Missouri and LPU the two prominent names in the field of education are taking this initiative to mark the new change in the field. Missouri University is considered one of the nation's top-tier institutions of the world and has a reputation of excellence in teaching and research. LPU has also set its delivery standards and earned the stature of the biggest University in India. “We found LPU very similar to our working pattern, strategy and quality which is why it was thought that both would be able to perform at ease and the tie up would create a global workforce,” said Dr Lax Akers, Associate Dean, University of Missouri.

The students studying in the under graduate engineering courses shall be eligible under this MoU to complete half of their course at LPU and the other half at Missouri University. The MoU will be for those students who would take admissions in the engineering courses this session. “This collaboration is aimed to benefit the students in terms of knowledge enhancement and practical experience so that they can carry that with them in their professional life. We are looking at many more opportunities which will make the students competitive internationally,” said Mr Ashok Mittal, Chancellor, LPU.

PS Rathore,World Renowned Motivational Guru, gave a One-Day Workshop to MBA Students of Lovely Professional University

In order to boost up the intrinsic qualities of its students, Faculty of Business Administration of Lovely Professional University organized one day motivational workshop for its MBA Students. The world renowned motivational speaker and behavioural trainer, Mr. PS Rathore, who is known for his mesmerizing deliveries of lectures and who is also in the panel of fortune 500 companies, spell bound the students. He gave a continuous 8- hours of captivating lecture-‘Discover the Fire Within’. This topic, he claims, is used to unleash the power and confidence of the students. More than 500 MBA Students of the University participated in the event.

For this workshop, Mr. Rathore said: “I chose the topic and concentrated my lecture of finding the energy potential that we have within.” He further said that he had various topics to discuss during the talk including Leadership, Team Building, Motivation and Personal Effectiveness which has already helped many fortune 500 companies to increase productivity and performance of their employees. Lovely Professional University is on Special Drive to Train its Students on English Language

In order to make its students globally fit, Lovely Professional University is laying special emphasis on their all round personality development. The Department of English of the University has taken a unique step in this regard. As this year, it has decided to provide customized English to the individual student. To improve upon their Communication Skills, the first step taken by the department was the conduction of ‘The Diagnostic Test’ in English. This test was held on-line to identify and classify the levels of ability in English of its new students. Further, it has specially designed and developed books, as well as study material, to provide them high skills in English Language.

In order to make them understand the international language well, speak faster, more natural, with good pronunciation, they are grouped in three categories on the basis of the test. All the students were required to appear for the same. In the next step, the 1st year students (all programmes) are made to have the special Work-Books for the English Courses. It is worth illustration that the work-books are designed keeping in view the level of the students. It is mandatory for each student to have these work-books for their betterment.

In this regard, the Chancellor of the University, Mr. Ashok Mittal said: “In this competitive world better and effective Communication is the most important skill required to exist in success. To implement this, our University decided to create and come up with special books keeping in view the different levels of understanding of the various students. Leading the visiting team, Dr.Prashant Pillai met the Chancellor of the University to discuss various Academic Collaboration areas. In addition, they shared thoughts about Joint- Research Works, Faculty & Student Exchange-Programmes and other allied issues. He also presented a valuable ‘Research Talk’ on the topic “Personal Mobile Communication on Airplanes” to benefit the students of the University.

Making an elaborate introduction about the University of Bradford and the Bradford City, he said: “We have seen a great opportunity at LPU for the future collaborative programmes. The great strength of the students from 25 states of India & 15 other foreign countries has much to fulfil our task of preparing a large number of young men and women for the next generation. We are happy to have cordial talks with the authorities of LPU, in this regard.” He further told that with the slogan of “Making Knowledge Work”, Bradford is a modern and student oriented University. And, set amid the spectacular countryside, Bradford City is one of the most affordable places to live in Britain.

On this occasion, the Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal said: “The Foreign Universities have once again started recognizing India as a great Centre of Learning and Research. That is why we are being constantly approached by a number of such universities for tie-ups regarding “twinning” and allied programmes of the University. We are already having tie-ups with more than 20 foreign universities of US, UK, Canada, Australia & Singapore including University of San-Francisco and others of immense repute. The present possible tie-up with University of Bradford, UK may add another golden chapter towards our strenuous efforts in regards to the development and progress of the students through International Exposure.”

Dr.Pillai is, currently, Lecturer in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in the School of Engineering, Design and Technology at the University of Bradford. His main areas of work are in Mobile/wireless networks like 2G/3G, WLAN Bluetooth and Satellite based networks. On the topic of the day, he presented that over the past decades wired and wireless networking has developed significantly People are increasingly adopting an “Always Connected” attitude. They expect to be in contact with work, friends and family at any time from any place. So there is an increasing demand for Internet access and telephony during flight. Wireless is the preferred access for business people on the move. Dr. Pillai explained thoroughly through System Requirements, System Scenarios, Business Model, System Architecture, Protocol Stacks, Signalling Flow examples, AAA Mechanisms, System Mobility, Security & Demonstrator Architecture that it is quite possible for Passengers to use their own Personal Devices (Phones/Laptops/PDAs) while on board.

Students of more than 20 Countries Represented Their Culture in Global Village Fair at Lovely Professional University

In an era of rapid globalization, a grand ‘Global Village’ Fair was organized at Lovely Professional University through AIESEC-a global students organization. Student-Representatives from more than 20 Countries including Switzerland, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Ivory-Coast, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, China etc. exhibited rich and varied Culture of their respective countries. They had formed their separate stalls to interact with the students from 25 states of India and 15 other countries of the university. They shared with them about the peculiarities of their culture, creed and civilization through different manners and methods.

Inaugurating the ‘Global Village’ the Chancellor of the University, Mr. Ashok Mittal said: “Through Global Exposure only we can produce human resource for the industry that has the capacity to interact and work in a global environment. Under the same vision LPU decided to host this mega event in the campus. In addition, our University also has tie-up with more than 20 foreign universities of US, UK, Canada & Australia to provide Indian students the opportunity to study and work on global land. More over, this image of a global university has also attracted more than 200 students from different parts of the world including Indonesia, US, UK, Nigeria, Tanzania and other 10 countries to the campus.” He further added, “We are very hopeful that such initiatives will help in making LPU as India’s first Global University.”

In this grand fair, through the stall of Switzerland it was well exhibited that Swiss people love basic food items including a huge selection of bread, dairy products, vegetables etc. Students explained about special bread ‘Zopf’ & “Birchermüesli"- an unprocessed food. Traditional Swiss Folklore Music ‘Alpsegen’& Yodelling was also shared with onlookers. The students of Poland let aware through the Opera Performances about the great culture of their country. At the stall of China, the rich Chinese culture was explained. A commonly practiced traditional Chinese form of exercise ‘Tai Chi’ - a combination of aerobic exercise, stretching, and stress relaxation, was liked by all. The Turkey Stall displayed art and craft through tiles, pottery, carpet, Jewellery, & that of Mauritius exhibited Sega Dance & Music of great comfort. Similarly, the students of rest of the participating countries displayed the best of their heritage.

Four of the students from the University Nishant, Dhruv Singla, Apurva Rawat, & Saloni from AIESEC say: “Providing a platform for youth leadership development, this Fair offered us all a great opportunity to be perfect global citizens. Interaction with a vast galaxy of foreign students has enabled us to learn different language skills, international work-experience and respect for cultural divergence. These are very essential for us to become globally fit as the world salutes those who have a diverse experience.”

LPU Provided Scholarship Benefit to more than 5000 Merit Student

Under a grand and promised endeavour, Lovely Professional University this year has provided financial support to more than 5000 deserving students through different Scholarships and Financial schemes. More than 12 Crores of Rupees are sanctioned to the students under this drive this year by the University. This Scheme has enabled students from across India and abroad to become part of the coveted University.

Talking to Media, the Chancellor of the University Mr. Ashok Mittal said, “ We have seen that India is a country where students have lot of talent and capabilities. But, many times lack of financial resources stop them to grow further in area of higher education. Understanding the same, LPU this year, which is also the year when the Lovely Group enters its 50th year of founding, has decided to provide scholarships to such students. Under the schemes it was decided to provide the benefit to large number of meritorious students by providing the scholarship up-to Rs. 1 Lakh per year per student, depending upon the qualifying examination and programme they choose. We also realized that the bright students who are not able to perform well in their qualifying examination because of certain general reasons must also be benefited. For them we have conducted a special online test TFA (Test for Financial Aid) in 25 cities. Four months down the time, I am happy to share the success of the scheme as more than 5000 students have been benefited through it across India.” He further informed, “ More than 150 students with 90% or above marks, 25% of the total meritorious students having 80% or above(less than 90%) and still 60% of the total such other students getting 70% or more(less than80%) are granted scholarships in accordance to their level of scoring, and 850 students have got benefitted through TFA.”

The parents, from North East, of a ‘Fresh’ student Ruchi who has recently got admission in the Programme B Tech of the University said: “Due to certain unavoidable circumstances, she could not perform very well in her last school examination. She was very up-set and frustrated on not going to get admission in the University of her dreams due to financial constraints. When she heard about the TFA, she got elated, prepared well for the exams and made it an unforgettable success to get admission, here, at LPU.”

Prominent Entertainer Raju Shrivastva titled the New-Students to the Core at Lovely Professional University

In order to get the New – Entrants well acquainted & accustomed to different systems of the University, the management of the Lovely Professional University organized under grand celebrations a week- Long colourful & Informative Induction Programme. The last phase of this continuous programme was handed over to the ‘King of Comedy’ and famous Bolly-Wood as well as TV Star, Raju Shrivastva, who performed at Shri Baldev Raj Mittal Square located near LIT Engineering Block of the University to entertain and greet the ‘fresh’ students amid fun and laughter. He titillated the whole audience through his special mimicry, antics, histrionics, mono- and dialogues of varied laughing-stuff.

The most popular Indian Comedian created laughter by his acute perception and comical timing taking various Indian aspects of life. He won over the hearts of the students, their parents, guests and members of the staff through a very special style of his own. He was liked and applauded by all. Taking examples from his early struggle-full life, he also delivered a great message of being always cheerful under all circumstances to win and cross over the unwanted hurdles in one’s life. In fact, being a good mimic, Raju nursed the dream of becoming a comedian since childhood. In his school time he used to imitate his teachers and Amitabh Bachchan.

Two of the students Sonaxi and Surbhi Gupta said: “ We and our parents are really thankful to the conceivers and designers of this specially formulated Induction Programme through which we gathered all about the university and city, its functioning related to us. As newcomers, We have also got a special ‘Guide Hand-Book’ which has complete information about the university rules and regulations and other important information and contact numbers for future reference. Once we were scared to join a professional Institution as we used to regularly hear the said tales of ragging, callous attitude of the senior students and indifference of other members. But, the altogether different and homely atmosphere at the university, all full of warmth and welcome through a carnival by old students, the management and teachers, has really elated us to have joined it.”

On this occasion, the Chancellor of the University Shri Ashok Mittal said: “ All the students are welcomed to start afresh their new professional life to come up to the expectations of all those who regularly care for them. They have many duties of utter responsibilities towards their nation, parents and alma mater in the forthcoming years. Life is not easy as it seems. It is full of challenges, competitions, struggles etc. One may not know how many moments of sadness and allied emotional ups and downs must the today’s king of comedy and other successful persons have faced to acquire present status.
