Lovely Professional University (LPU) Conducted ‘Peer-to-Peer Training’

Being on the very specific lines of a unique programme of Lovely Professional University, its Department of Computer Applications (LSECA) conducted ‘Peer-to-Peer Training’. The objective was to conduct training/grooming sessions by the students, for their fellow students, by proving themselves as perfect Role-Models. It was on the areas that were deemed important from placement or employability point of view. The Students, as Role Model trainers, had been selected on the basis of a panel interview and demo lectures by their University Faculty. Such students were prepared by their teachers to teach all those basic things to other students which they themselves thought to be learnt necessarily.

For this special conduction, the Executive Dean of the University, Ms. Rashmi Mittal said: “One can gain and learn much through one’s self endeavours and experiences. Being open to a situation, the things needed to tackle it are self created automatically, as per one’s abilities and understanding. We all know very well that necessity is the mother of all inventions. As such, being open to the training sessions, the students will be able to improve upon under mutual interaction and beneficial discussions, thereof.”

It was a placement-oriented initiative of the Department for 2011 passing out batch students. As trainer, students got an opportunity to reveal their talent as well the others learnt more and more of basics needed through interactions and presentations from the students of their own level. Training areas were C, C++, Java, Data Structures, DBMS, Computer Networks, Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal and Non-Verbal ‘Reasoning’ or, on the spur, some other topic deemed beneficial for students. These were conducted three times a week and each session was of two hours. The faculty coordinator for the event and the Co-ordinator of the Department of Computer Applications carefully watched for the smoothness of the whole process going on.

Two of the students, Sukhbir Kaur and Malika Bedi, who learnt a lot through active participation in this conduction, said: “Under the able guidance of the teachers, our fellow students taught us very well the basic fundamentals needed for the hard topics. They proved themselves as ‘True Role Models’ by possessing the qualities that we liked them to have as trainers. Being almost on the same level of understanding, they taught us in a common language of easy understanding.”
