Center for Skill Development of Lovely Professional University caters to the Desires of Dr Kalam


Center for Skill Development of Lovely Professional University has launched many Skill Development Programmes for the betterment of University students as well as other aspiring students, not part of the University. In this regard, more than 15 Certificate Programmes are devised in the domains of Languages, Computer, Performing /Fine Arts, Management and Commerce. Talking to Media, the Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal said: "Recently, former President of India and renowned scientist A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has stressed that increasing the employability of students has become crucial. Dr Kalam also wanted, addressing at a world education summit, that Universities and schools in the country should impart the knowledge of special skills and create cadres of well-trained students who will be part of the global human resource." In this context, he informed: "Our University has already been working on these desires of Hon'ble Dr Kalam." He further said: "To cater to the customized requirements of different sections of corporate world and industrial sector, our University has established an autonomous center for skill development under its aegis. It aims to develop skilled manpower through a large number of employment oriented diversified programmes." He made it clear: "Students can opt for these programmes even along with their regular studies, or can well utilize their vacations to enhance placement avenues. So, these are to reduce the aimless pursuit and pressure of any tertiary education." He also held that it is an initiative to take human potential to greater heights by grooming the raw talent and polishing their work oriented skill to the maximum.

Nestle India Ltd. selected Eleven Students of Lovely Professional University


Eleven students of Lovely Professional University have got selected by Nestle India Limited under a campus Placement Drive. Nestle had invited students of B.Tech Biotech, passing out 2011 batch. After the meticulous conduction of the placement drive at Shri Baldev Raj Mittal Auditorium of the University, 11 students were finally selected following the Selection Criteria based on PPT, Written Test, HR Interview etc. The selected ones will join their duties on 26th July 2011.

On this occasion, the Pro-Chancellor of the University, Ms Rashmi Mittal said: "The hard working students have suitably availed of the opportunity, in the prime of their career start. It is a healthy sign that they have grabbed a coveted chance to serve and grow with a company like 'Nestle' of international reputation." She added: "It is wonderful that they are going to imbibe the company's transparent business practices, pioneering environment policy in so early an age." She also wished: "May these promising students add more and more luster to their career in future, too."

Renowned Professor from University of Memphis, USA, held Faculty Development Seminar at Lovely Professional University


Pulsing global level marvellous achievements made by Lovely Professional University, renowned Associate Professor of Finance at University of Memphis, USA, Dr Sandra Mortal held a two-day Faculty Development Seminar. It was held at the Faculty of Business & Arts of the University. More than 50 teachers participated in it. Affiliated currently with the Securities and Exchange Commission, USA ; Prof. Mortal delivered the best of Academic Pursuits in relation to Research, Teaching and Service to the LPU faculty.

Welcoming Prof Mortal to the University, who has already taught at University of Georgia, Northern Illinois and University of Missouri before coming to University of Memphis, the Vice-Chancellor of LPU, Dr Rameshwar S Kanwar said: "Our regular endeavours have, mainly and primarily, been to keep our faculty as well as students abreast with the latest trends and traditions in the realms of global education scenario." He further said, "The present visit of Prof Sandra Mortal is in this context. Her expertise will really accord and add much values towards knowledge of the recipients."

After having great interaction and feed-back from the participating faculty, Prof. Mortal exclaimed her satisfaction: "Interacting with the best of faculty of the University adopting all international standards, I am fully contented towards my delivery to the LPU 'intelligentia'!" She also said: "I feel my suggestions at the seminar must have come as valuable information up to the expectations of the LPU Faculty." Continuing, she said: "Seeing the vast and beautiful campus, infrastructure, Laboratories, Libraries, Spacious Class-Rooms, Multi-story Hostel Accommodations etc; I, personally feel that this all can automatically lead a person towards academic pursuit of globalized standards and wants."

It is illustrative that after introductions and formal interaction with LPU faculty, on the first Day, the seminar went along with 'Presentation on the triangle of academic life -Research, Teaching & Service. It followed presentation on "How to succeed in an Academic Career" and "PhD and the route to a Global Career in Academia". Going ahead, on the day two, the topics "Use of New Technologies in Teaching", "Globalizing Curriculum", "Using advanced Soft-Wares for Assignment Submission and Evaluation" were explained under all possible elaborations.

LPU adjudged as one of the Top Nine Universities in India


Recently, Lovely Professional University has been ranked as one of the top nine 'best of the rest' private universities in India. It is based on a perception survey conducted by Indian Council for Market Research (ICMR), on behalf of a popular magazine 'The Sunday Indian'. Focussing attention on the condition of students, LPU is further ranked at no: 5 for BCA Programme and at 14 for BBA, all over India. It is worthwhile to mention that LPU has many thousands of students on its rolls from 22 countries all across the world & 26 states of India. Spending 35 years with IOWA State University, US, World renowned Hydrogolist Prof Rameshwar Kanwar joins LPU as Vice-Chancellor


World renowned Hydrogolist Dr. Rameshwar S Kanwar has joined Lovely Professional University as Vice-Chancellor. After teaching at the prestigious Iowa State University, USA for more than three decades and more recently as the Department Chair of the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department, coming back to his home country, eminent professor Dr. Kanwar has joined the Lovely Professional University as the new Vice-Chancellor.

An MS holder from G B Pant University of Agricultural and Technology in India and a Ph.D in water resources from Iowa State University, Professor Ramesh Kanwar is a distinguished academician, renowned researcher and a respected teacher. Dr. Kanwar specializes in irrigation, drainage, groundwater quality, animal waste management, water table management, sustainable agricultural production systems and modeling of hydrologic systems, engineering solution to emerging global environmental problems from agricultural and livestock production systems. Apart from Iowa State University students, he also taught undergraduate and postgraduate and PhD students in Austria, Belgium, Portugal, Uzbekistan as well as India. An honourary professor at Beijing Agricultural University in China, Ningxia University in China, Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization in Uzbekistan, and Trakia University in Bulgaria.

On this occasion, welcoming and introducing Dr. Kanwar, the Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal informed: "Joining of Dr. Rameshwar S Kanwar will really prove most beneficial and fruitful to all the students and members of staff at LPU. Persons of his status and stature are in a way boon for the rare developments in the arena of education. His international outcomes, thoughts and progressive manners will indeed help us realizing the dreams we have already envisaged for, as Dr. Kanwar's research interests are versatile and of global importance." He further mentioned: "Prof. Kanwar has worked for the World Bank, FAO, UNDP, USAID, NATO, and foreign universities/governments in Belgium, Portugal, Kenya, Ethiopia, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, India, China, Thailand, Japan, and several other countries."

Addressing, Dr. Kanwar said: "I am looking forward to lead LPU. After spending 35 years at US, coming back to India is really exhilarating and thrilling." He continued: "I will try to bring improvement in the academics and betterment in whole of the system. No doubt, university has already marked at international level, we will together further strive with expertise and team work."

It is worth noticing, Dr. Kanwar was awarded an honorary doctorate degree by the Georgian State Agrarian University in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 2000 and was elected Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences in India in 2001. In 2005, he was elected Fellow of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers. In 2007, he was awarded Doctorate Honour Causa Scientific by the Trakia University in Bulgaria. He has received numerous awards including Engineer of the Year Award by ASABE, Distinguished Service Award by the Asian Association of Agricultural Engineers, and Outstanding Young Engineering Faculty Research Award, Outstanding Graduate Faculty Award, and International Service Award by Iowa State University.

Lovely Professional University won Italian Trade Commission(ICE) Scholarships


Lovely Professional University has won Italian Trade Commission(ICE) Scholarships, this year. LPU has further selected its 8 meritorious students and one Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Department under this scheme. They are all, presently, on an educational tour for 15 days to Italy. Under IMTTA 2011- ITALIAN MACHINE TOOL TECHNOLOGY AWARD, visiting students have to go for an extensive and detailed visit programme IN ITALY up to 16th JULY, 2011. The visiting ones are provided with free to and fro air-tickets, hotel-stays, food and transport for local visits
Talking to media, the Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal said: "These scholarships are annually awarded by the Italy Government to three countries- India, US and Russia. This year our University bagged these for our Country."He further explained, "We have further selected 8 Mechanical Engineering students on Merit Basis, Personal Interviews and Project Reports as per the Italian Embassy." He also added: "This is a great chance for our hard working students to further get exposed to global experience of immense utility. They will be able to learn about latest Italian Machine tool technologies and machines in practical shape, through present tour."

Some of the visiting students, Manveer Singh, Shouqat Ali, Rohit, Sneh hold: "University always try to accord the best of the opportunity to students so that we may keep on learning latest trends and techniques. The present endeavour to Italy is one of the best examples for this."  It is illustrative that students will get valuable knowledge about different projects, along with the American and Russian students.

MIP Representatives will train them through vast presentations about 'Strategic Management of Technological Innovation', 'Design evolution and industrial product Trends' and 'Technology Driven Innovation: Virtual Prototyping' at MIP POLITECNICO DI MILANO. They also have to absorb an extensive technical know-how through Association of Italian Manufacturers of Machine Tools Robots, Automation Systems and Ancillary Products (UCIMU-SISTEMI) and Institute of Industrial Technologies and Automation at MILAN. Not only this, they will also have free time to recreate themselves under a wonderful trip to naturalistic-cultural spot in the surroundings of Milan, and Museum of Flight at Varese, MUSEO GALLERIA FERRARI at Maranello and Ducati, factory and museum at Bologna.

Canara Bank selected 24 MBA Students of Lovely Professional University at a package of 4.41 to 6.63 lakh per annum

Lovely Professional University Student Received the Prestigious Queensland -India Friendship Scholarship


Under an initiative of the Queensland Government, Australia, one of the students of Lovely Professional University (LPU) has been awarded a Qld-India Friendship Scholarship. Manager, International Engagement CQU, Ms Janelle Allen has informed about the selection of Ms Kiranjit Kaur, a student of Bachelor of Business Administration ( Honours) Programme at LPU. The total value of the scholarship is AU$20,000/-. Under this scholarship, Ms Kiranjit will be studying in CQU for complete one semester free of cost. All of her expenses would be covered under the programme.

Congratulating Ms Kiranjit Kaur and welcoming the selection of LPU student by CQU, the Pro-Chancellor of the University, Ms Rashmi Mittal said: "This coveted award of scholarship will certainly give her, as well all other Indian students like her, a chance to expand their horizons by undertaking a semester of study in a foreign University and that, too, in the country like Australia." She added: "It is a matter of pride for us as such scholarships are awarded to high-performing Indian university students for accessing international education." She further informed: "In this context, the achievements made through our International Study Programmes and Students Exchange Programmes are Self- Explanatory. We solely want to shape and develop our students to get globally fit."

Earlier, while announcing Queensland - India Friendship Scholarships programme, Premier and Minister for the Arts, Anna Bligh has already held: "India is a very important educational partner for Queensland and the Queensland - India Friendship Scholarships will provide an opportunity to the Indian students a safe, quality study destination for Indian students in Australia. In collaboration with our State's nine universities, our government is providing funding for the selected students to come to Queensland to participate in study or in research for one semester in 2011."
 
It is worth illustration that this scholarship of AU$20,000/- will cover her entire Tuition fee, Accommodation and food( at Capricornia College) for her 5th semester at the Australian University and also her visa processing fees and to and fro flight charges. The remainder will be deposited into an Australian bank account in her name to be used to cover study and personal expenses. On contacting, Ms Kiranjit expressed her great emotions: "My joy knows no bounds on this attainment. I am lucky that my university has enabled me to achieve a very coveted chance."

Hundreds of foreign students are thronging Lovely Professional University for Admission


Grown phenomenally, Lovely Professional University is getting on its rolls many aspiring International students from 22 countries. Already having students from 16 foreign lands, six new countries, UGANDA , RWANDA, BURUNDI, ERITREA, MALDIVES & ITALY have lengthened up this list recently. More than 400 such students have enrolled themselves in different courses till now. The present rate of admission of students is double than the previous year. They have preferred B.Sc. Our University already has close to 300 foreign students studying in its campus; and, the new addition will, probably, make LPU the university with largest number of international students studying at single campus in India. This achievement has marked a major step towards fulfilling our objective in providing education of international standards. In fact, we are determined to impart professional as well as world level acceptable knowledge and training so as to make our students globally fit."

It is worth illustration that the number of foreign students taking admission in Indian educational institutions has been showing a regular and steady increase for the past few years. Sharing his experience at LPU, Azze, a Nigerian student who is pursuing a degree course in B.Tech, second year, said, "LPU follows a uniform curriculum without any disparity among the States or countries and provides higher education at a very reasonable cost. All foreign students are given equal attention and treatment like the Indian students. Lovely Professional University launches Distance Education Study Programmes across the country


Encouraging Education beyond the Campus, the Directorate of Open and Distance Learning (DODL) of Lovely Professional University launched its Distance Education Study Programmes across the country. Flagged all around in multi-colour , the Universiy welcomed more than 500 Representatives, of its future study centers, who witnessed the launching ceremony of Dynamic Web-Portal, E-Learning Portal, Prospectus, Comprehensive Study Material, Radio & TV Advertisements, e-kiosks etc. On this occasion, the Chairman of the Lovely Group, Mr Romesh Mittal, Vice- Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal and the Chancellor LPU Mr Ashok Mittal jointly inaugurated the Launching Ceremony by lighting of the lamp, at Shri Baldev Raj Mittal Auditorium of the University.

Addressing the gathering of the Study Center Owners from across India, Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal shared the Vision for the LPU Distance Education. He mentioned: "LPU Distance education Programme would be a quality Programme to be delivered across India and around the Globe. Right from the Study Material to the Study Centers, Web-Portal, Students Support System, Examination and everything related to the programme would be of global Standard." He further said: "We will try to change the definition and perception of Distance Education being delivered in India by providing the utmost quality education to all the students enrolled in these programmes." He also informed: "During the first year, we would be starting with 30 Study Programmes under 5 Disciplines and we will add Programmes further, as per the Industry requirements." He forcefully said: "LPU will promote lifelong learning through its Distance Education, which will provide a quality University education at the most affordable Fee structure."
