Lovely Professional University bade adieu to VIRSA


Concluded with a grand finale in the form of one of the biggest youth festivals of Association of Indian Universities-VIRSA was bidden a befitting adieu today at Lovely Professional University. Dr Arun Diwakar Nath Bajpai, Secretary General of AIU & Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla was the Chief Guest of the day. Prof. DN Johar, Vice-Chancellor, Dr BR Ambedkar University, Agra presided over the celebration. On this eve, 24 Judges of eminence declared Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar as overall winner of AIU’s 27th Inter University Zonal Youth Festival. Host Lovely Professional University lifted the Runners-Up (second position) trophy for the competitions. LPU also got accolade for having mastery in music field in which it won the almost all the competitions. The Deputy Secretary, Youth Affairs (AIU), Mr. Sampson David, Chancellor of LPU Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro-Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal, Vice-Chancellor Mr Rameshwar Kanwar, and Director General Er HR Singla were also prominently present on the occasion.

Before awarding the coveted trophy to the Over-all Winner Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, the Chief Guest Dr ADN Bajpai highly appreciated LPU for organizing endeavours put together. Briefing the youth assemblage about the history of youth festivals, he encouraged all the participants to be always young in thoughts and actions: “Youth is not with age; Youth is active state of mind, which thinks of future and better future only. India is always youthful with more and more youth Power and it is indeed going to lead the World through persons like you all.” He also guided all winners as well others, by quoting from Hindi and Urdu poets: “To be in the field is more important than to be only a field-winner. Participation gives each and everyone a chance to self-analysis. One should discuss his/her shortcomings with mentors and friends to succeed next time, if not now.”

Being impressed by the arrangements, he liked to prefer LPU as host for other major academic as well as cultural activities in future and promised that to further host the next national level cultural fest, Vice –Chancellors Meet, Meet of Economists as well as the Indian Science Conference through AIU in the LPU campus. On the other hand, Mr. Sampson David announced LPU as a world class University. Speaking on the occasion, the Chancellor of LPU, Mr Ashok Mittal said: “We are happy to see that VIRSA proved a great platform for the whole of the University. I am, personally, happy to have such a big event being organized for Jalandhar and Punjab. I aspire to have more of such mammoth organizations for all in Punjab to learn and grow more.”

Prior to this, giving the best send off to the 1000 participants , mentors and their associates the artists of LPU presented cultural items of Guitar Harmony, Fusion dance from South and North, Display of Martial Art, Fusion of Blind Dance, B-Boying & Indonesian Dance. Students of participating University MDU presented Dhamal. On this occasion, Singers, composers and directors of ‘VERTO’ Music Album of the University were also specially honoured. The celebration culminated at the SBRM square, which has already seen many celebrations; but never in recent years has it perhaps seen co-ordinating participants of this magnitude. Indeed, It has been one of the most cherishing event in the history of LPU as more colourful as well as vibrant organization.

Rocking along world renowned Euphoria Band, LPU bade Farewell to Tech-Fest GyanManthan-2011


Organized fifth time in continuation; Lovely Professional University bade farewell to its three days' national level Tech-Fest Gyan Manthan-2011, on rocking and rhythmic notes from famous Euphoria Band. More than 20,000 students from LPU, as well from participating 25 engineering colleges, enjoyed the bidding adieu ceremony. The rocking performance by dynamic lead singer and Bollywood actor Dr Palash Sen, of Euphoria, compelled the onlookers to sing, dance, feel and celebrate the great three gala days along with him and his team. The concert kept everyone on their toes as Euphoria Group came out with all their hits right from 'Dhoom Pichuk' to 'Maeri' to 'Kabhi aana tu meri gully' and from their new album ITEM. All the students, teachers, other members of the staff, many relatives and friends of theirs also enjoyed the concert.

Congratulating and addressing all the victorious as well as other participants, their mentors, on the closing ceremony, the Chancellor, Mr Ashok Mittal said : "We always like to opt a way to ensure that our students make lifetime memories with the institution. 'Gyan Manthan' is one of such platforms. I am glad to note that they have the genius to create wonders, as they have proved their techno- oriented minds through displays three days." Giving away the prizes to the winners, he added: "We really feel proud in honouring the students, who have brought out their inner talent and learnt that - in this global competitive atmosphere only bookish knowledge is not sufficient for complete personal growth."

The fest saw many interesting events Aquaholic, Harit Gram, Robo Wars, Dean's Challenge, Auto Stunts, Radio-Cars, Go-Karting etc where students revealed their extra-ordinary wit. Along with these there were also many stalls of attraction concerning games, recreation, eatables etc. In the concluding hours of the day, the enthusiastic audience remained responding with gusto and applauds on the scintillating performances of "Euphoria".

Having competed for more than 20 Technical, 25 Non-Technical Events & participating in 11 non competitive Technical events of the fest, the students enthusiastically awaited for the results, which declared Arvind & group first in competition ‘Ashwamegh’ of Mechanical Engineering; Apoorva Gupta & Group in ‘Saras’ of Civil Engineering; Rajat Pathak & group in ‘Sangram’ of ECE; Sandeep Chauhan & Group in ‘Chakravuh’ of ECE, Rajneesh Jha & group in ‘Sanjeevani’ of Management; Green Events saw Dheeraj kumar first for ‘Urja Janitra’, Abhishek for ‘Paristhak Shahar’, Ankit for ‘Aavedan’. In ‘Aquaholic’ Deepak Dhawalpuri & group got first prize. ‘Vishwakarma’ of CSE saw Avinash & group first; ‘Pragya Pranali’ declared Sandeep Kumar and group first; ‘Prashnotri’ of biotech saw Sevati Sexana & group first and similarly ‘Bizz- Wizz’ had Riya & group first.

Punjab School Education Board's Regional Youth Festival concluded at LPU


Punjab School Education Board's Jalandhar Region Competitions for Cultural & Co-Curricular Events concluded today at Lovely Professional University. Hosted for three days by LPU, these competitions had been stretched for different events scheduled at six vast venues of the University Campus. About 1500 School Students from more than 110 schools had gathered to exhibit their talents in 12 competitive events. Many Judges of prominence had been deputed to adjudge the talents of the participants. On the first day 250 students, on second 600 and on third day 650 students underwent for different competitions. It was the second time that the university had been entrusted by the Education Board of the Govt of Punjab, to fulfill herculean task of such a mammoth conduction. In this regard, the Division of Student Affairs of the university was duly directed to care for this organization through its Department of Cultural Affairs.

On the closing ceremony, praising the design of competitions by Education Board, Mohali, the Pro Chancellor of the University, Ms Rashmi Mittal said: "The Punjab School Education Board really deserves applaud and appreciation, which is strenuously trying to bring revolutionary changes by having the young minds on right humane track. We are immensely pleased on seeing the happy conclusion of competitions under a great note; and, it really remained an advantage for us to serve this great Educative Endeavour. In fact, we always want to share such social works and responsibilities entrusted upon us from Government and allied bodies." Inspiring the winning and other competing students, she added: “Students should note that healthy competitions teach us to be up to the mark to excel others, irrespective of our victory or defeat. Such activities also keep on upholding our traditions, customs, values and culture in abundance."

It is worth noticing that held annually at Block, District, Regional and State Level in chronological order; these co-curricular activities have due Academic Weight-age for the participants. As such, these competitions help the participants in having Reservation of Seats for all Academic and Professional Courses at University as well as School Level, as per their talent potentialities. On contacting a few Judges, all of them approved as versatile artists of repute by All India Radio and Doordarshan, Dr Narender Sharma, Prof Satbir Singh, Prof Gulbir Singh, they were of the opinion: " It is indeed a great thing that students of primary and middle class level performed on a big stage to always aspire and achieve big. Young minds imbibe soon and seeing the great doings at the University, they will certainly grow in a better way." Similarly, a few participating students & teachers Joginder Pal, Mansi, Simran, Sonia Khanna, Raman, Muskan, Jasanpreet, Satnam Singh, were of the view: "We are indeed lucky to perform our skills before the audience and spectators of the largest University of India. The boost through them has certainly inspired us to do much better next with more enthusiasm. We have learnt a lot from the university atmosphere."

In this context, the competitions for Bhashan, Geet Gayan, Kavita were held at Venue-I, Block-3A LIT Conference Hall; Shabad, Solo Dance, Giddha at Venue-II, Block-2A Shri Baldev Raj Mittal Auditorium; Vaar, kavishri at VenueIII-Block-I LIM Basement Hall; Chitrakala, Sunder Likhai at Venue-IV, Block-3A LIT Basement Hall; Venue-V, Campus Cafe Stage witnessed Bhangra.

Punjab School Education Board’s Regional Competitions for Cultural Events inaugurated at Lovely Professional University


Lovely Professional University is currently hosting Punjab School Education Board’s Jalandhar Region Competitions for Cultural & Co-Curricular Events. Inaugurated today by the Pro Chancellor of the University, Ms Rashmi Mittal, the competitions will continue up to 17th November. About 250 school students have gathered to exhibit their talents in 6 competitive events of today. 18 Judges of prominence and repute have been deputed to adjudge the talents of the participants. On the first day students competed for Bhashan, Geet Gayan, Kavita, Shabad, Chitrakala and Sundar Likhai. Illustrative, it is the second time in consecution that LPU is extending its co-ordination towards managing such a mammoth organization of PSEB, Government of Punjab.

On this occasion, the Pro Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal said: “Our University is ever-ready to be up to the expectations of all those who have faith in its potentialities and capabilities, particularly the works related to social responsibilities. That is why we have been specially chosen second time by the education board of the Government of Punjab to fulfill herculean task of such a conduction.” Inspiring the young students she further said: “Healthy competitions teach us to excel and channelize the energy in the positive direction. Such activities help us to uphold our traditions, customs, values and culture in abundance. The Punjab School Education Board really deserves applaud and appreciation for bringing so many schools together to compete on such level.”

The boost through them is certainly urging us to present with more enthusiasm the talent we have.”

In today’s competition Harmanpreet Kaur, Sameer Sharma and Dapinder Kaur stood first, second and third position at Bhashan competition. Amanpreet Kaur stood first in Shabad Gayan, Riyaz stood first position in lokgeet, Simran Kaur stood first in Sundar likhai, and Vikas stood first in Chitrakala.

600 students will compete on the second day for Aam Gyan, Shabad, Geet, Bhashan, Kavita, Chitrakala, Solo Dance, Bhangra, Giddha, Vaar, kavishri, Sunder Likhai; and, the third Day will see 650 students in competition for Maulik Likhit, Aam Gyan, Shabad, Geet, Bhashan, Kavita, Chitrakala, Solo Dance, Bhangra, Giddha, Vaar, kavishri, Sunder Likhai.

One of India's Largest Retail Groups 'Planet Retail' selected Students of Lovely Professional University at Salary Package of 2.5 Lac


Students of Lovely Professional University have got selected as Asst Sales Manager, and Fashion Consultants by Planet Retail- a company at the forefront of retailing in India. It had invited Graduates, MBA (Retail, Marketing; Fashion Design, Hotel Management) students of 2012 passing Out Batch, who underwent the selection Criteria of Registration, PPT, Group Discussion, under this Placement Drive, conducted at SBRM Auditorium of the University. The Chief Operating Officer, Mr Vikash Purohit and HR Manager of the company, Ms Arvinder Sura were themselves present to streamline the recruiting process. The selected seven students will join their duties in the month of June 2012. The salary package offered is up to 2.5 Lac plus incentives.

Academic Dean of Business & Hotel Management School Switzerland visited LPU


Business & Hotel Management School (BHMS), Switzerland is world renowned school for dissemination of knowledge towards Hotel and Tourism related service sector industries. It has been preparing hospitality leaders by maintaining important visits, interactions seminars, lectures, regularly. On these lines, recently, its Academic Dean, Dr Anthony Erb paid a visit to Lovely Professional University to interact with the students of the Department of Hotel Management, Tourism & Hospitality, during a seminar. Dean Dr Erb delivered important information covering the latest topics on 'Hospitality and Global Management'& 'Culinary Management', for the general benefit of the students. He also let them be well abreast of the latest trends, techniques and thoughts in relation to their programmes.

Understanding the general characteristics of students and encouraging them, he said: "Time is the key to success. It should be best utilized during Industry training which is an integral part of any study programme. Students should practice the skills that they learn during learning period at their Department." He further informed that the hospitality industry consists of broad category of fields within the service industry like lodging, restaurants, event planning, and additional fields within the tourism industry. LPU Alumni from Oracle (Bengaluru) Interacted with the University Engineering Students


Lovely Professional University has been regularly striving hard to have its alumni well connected to their alma-mater. Under this, its Division of Students Career Services has started a series of sessions wherein the Junior students will be guided by Alumni for the benefit and betterment of the students. Recently an LPU Alumni, Mr Sumeet Singh, Senior Member Technical Staff from ORACLE, Bengaluru delivered an important Guest Lecture to the engineering Students. More than 500 B Tech (CS, IT) students got benefitted by knowing about various phases to enter MNCs. They were guided about Cloud Computing, Technical Skills, Non-Technical Skills, Career in java, Employability & Industry Expectation from the students.

Informing more about the Alumni Association and its works at the University, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Mr Rameshwar S Kanwar said: "Through these lectures our esteemed Alumni will continue educating and guiding the students on the current job market scenario and also help their placements by motivating and inviting high profiled companies for campus recruitment." He further said: "In fact,LPU Alumni Association (LPUAA) aims to keep the Alumni connected to the University through events, guest lectures, reunions and networking opportunities. Keeping the Alumni updated and informed about the University news, it helps them to participate in the proceedings of the Association and promotes and fosters mutually beneficial interaction among them and the present students of LPU."

It is illustrative that Mr. Sumeet Singh is of B Tech 2007 Pass out Batch. Feeling proud to be back at the campus as a worthy student of it’s, he said: "I have learnt a lot during my study- period here. And, now I feel much elated to see its regular progress towards international heights and attainments in education scenario. I do feel earnestly that I have an unflinching strong bond with my alma mater and it is ripe time for me to share my progress, knowledge and experiences with the upcoming engineers at the University." In fact a large number of well placed Engineers, Entrepreneurs and Executives have visited the Campus to steer well the students. Such Alumni sessions have been designed in a manner that these are interactive for further preparation of Industry Ready students.
